Case Description
I have an upper retainer in which the wires are bent. My regular orthodontist is in Boise, ID and, as a result, it is simply impractical to travel to Boise to have my retainer fixed. I have worn braces for approximately 2 years and retainers for nearly 1.5 years. I am seeking repair to my upper retainer by restoring the bent wires to a functioning form.

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description,
special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more
reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors.
Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

Cost Estimate: $100-200
This is a common problem. I see patients with retainer issues from other offices all the time when the patients have moved. If no outside lab work is needed, we just charge a $100 office visit. If you would require a new retainer that an outside lab would need to make, or if I would need to have the lab itself repair the wire, it would be the $100 office visit, plus whatever the lab cost was (usually under $100).Hope this helps.Bill Dischinger, DMD
